Ingredients

8 8 slices challah or 8 slices brioche bread
8 tablespoons butter or 8 tablespoons margarine
3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
2 -3 tablespoons Amaretto or 2 -3 tablespoons other almond liqueur
1/2 cup golden raisin
1 cup half-and-half
1 1/2 cups whole milk
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup toasted & slivered almonds , chopped
4 eggs , lightly beaten
cooking spray
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 dash nutmeg
1/2 cup light brown sugar

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with cooking spray.
2.In a small saucepan, heat 4 tablespoons butter or margarine until melted. Add vanilla extract, almond extract, Amaretto, raisins and brown sugar. Cook for a few minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has dissolved and the raisins have plumped up.
3.Cut the bread into cubes and place them in the prepared baking dish. Pour the raisin mixture over the bread.
4.In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the half-and-half, whole milk, cinnamon, nutmeg and eggs. Pour the mixture over the bread and raisin mixture, making sure all the bread pieces are coated.
5.Sprinkle chopped almonds over the top. Dot with remaining butter or margarine.
6.Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
7.Serve hot with maple syrup.
