1 lb phyllo dough , shredded ( Actually kataifi , defrosted per package instructions )
1/2 lb butter , melted
1 cup walnuts , coarsely chopped
1 cup almonds , coarsely ground
1/2 cup extra finely granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1 egg white , lightly beaten
1 tablespoon brandy
2 cups sugar
1 1/4 cups water
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
1 thin strip lemon peel
4 whole cloves
1 tablespoon honey

Instructions

2.Add the lightly beaten egg white and brandy to the mixture and mix well.
3.Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F
4.Lightly butter a 9-inch baking dish.
5.Arrange shredded phyllo dough in the baking dish, brushing each layer with melted butter as you go.
6.Pour the nut mixture over the dough and smooth the top.
7.Continue layering the phyllo dough, brushing each layer with melted butter, until the nut mixture is completely covered.
8.Cut the top layer of phyllo dough into diamond shapes.
9.Bake the kataifi for 40-45 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
10.While the kataifi is baking, prepare the syrup. In a small saucepan, combine the sugar, water, lemon juice, lemon peel, cloves, and honey. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
11.Pour the cooled syrup over the hot kataifi as soon as it is removed from the oven. Let the kataifi cool completely before serving.
