12 slices crusty Portuguese bread ( about 2-inch -3-inch ) or 12 slices Italian bread ( about 2-inch -3-inch )
24 peeled shallots or 24 garlic cloves
1 teaspoon olive oil
2 teaspoons salt
fresh ground black pepper

Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
2.In a small bowl, whisk the egg, roasted garlic, salt, and black pepper until combined.
3.Continue whisking while slowly pouring in the olive oil, whisking until the mixture thickens to the consistency of mayonnaise.
4.In another bowl, coat the shallots or garlic cloves in 1 teaspoon of olive oil and season with 2 teaspoons of salt and black pepper to taste.
5.Spread the garlic aioli generously onto the slices of bread.
6.Place the bread slices and the seasoned shallots or garlic on a baking sheet and bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes until the bread is golden brown and toasted, and the garlic is soft and caramelized.
7.Remove from the oven and let the bread cool for a couple of minutes before serving.
8.Top the bread with the roasted shallots or garlic and garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
