Instructions

1.In a pan, heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil.
2.Add 1 teaspoon skinned split black lentils (urad dal) and fry until golden brown.
3.Add 1 teaspoon mustard seeds, 4 dried red chile peppers, 2 chopped green chile peppers, and a pinch of asafoetida powder. Fry for a minute until the mustard seeds start popping.
4.Add 1 tablespoon more of cooking oil and fry 1/2 chopped onion until translucent.
5.Add 2 chopped tomatoes and salt to taste. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and mushy.
6.Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool down.
7.In a blender, blend the mixture with 1/4 cup chopped cilantro leaves.
8.Serve with rice or as a side dish.
