Ingredients

3 cups basmati rice
1/4 cup cooking oil
2 large onions , minced
1 tablespoon garlic paste
1 tablespoon ginger paste
1 teaspoon ground turmeric
1 teaspoon garam masala
1 teaspoon ground cumin
2 tomatoes , chopped
1 pound ground beef
salt to taste
1/2 cup frozen green peas ( optional )
4 green chile peppers , halved lengthwise
1 tablespoon ghee ( clarified butter )
1 cinnamon stick
1 black cardamom pod
2 bay leaves
4 whole cloves
5 cups water
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
Kheema Pulao is a popular Indian dish that is made by cooking ground beef (or other protein) and rice with aromatic spices and vegetables. Instructions

1.Rinse the basmati rice in cold water and soak for 20 minutes.
2.In a large pot, heat the cooking oil over medium-high heat.
3.Add the minced onions, garlic paste, and ginger paste and sauté until golden brown.
4.Add the ground turmeric, garam masala, and ground cumin and sauté for another minute.
5.Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until soft.
6.Add the ground beef and cook until browned.
7.Add salt to taste.
8.Add the frozen green peas (optional) and green chile peppers and cook for another 5 minutes.
9.In a separate skillet, heat the ghee over medium heat.
10.Add the cinnamon stick, black cardamom pod, bay leaves, and whole cloves and stir for 1 minute.
11.Add the soaked and drained basmati rice and stir until coated in the ghee and spices.
12.Add 5 cups of water and bring to a boil.
13.Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the water has fully absorbed.
14.Remove from heat and let sit for 5 minutes.
15.Fluff the rice with a fork and sprinkle with chopped fresh cilantro before serving.
