3 links Italian sausage , casings removed
1 large meaty ham bone or 4 smoked ham hocks
16 ounces dry lima beans
1 package dried navy beans
2 cans stewed tomatoes

3 bay leaves
1/4 cup chopped fresh chives
2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil

1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon mustard powder
1 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon salt ( optional )
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
3 tablespoons chicken bouillon powder
1 can or bottle beer

Instructions

1.Rinse and sort dry lima beans and navy beans, place in a large pot and add water to cover the beans. Add sliced Italian sausage and bring to a boil over high heat.
2.Reduce heat, add chopped onion, minced garlic, sliced carrots, chopped celery, bay leaves, dried thyme, mustard powder, cayenne pepper, salt, black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and chicken bouillon powder. Simmer for about 1 hour or until beans are tender.
3.Add ham bone or smoked ham hocks, stewed tomatoes, tomato paste and beer, simmer for another 30 minutes or until ham falls off the bone. Remove bone and bay leaves. Stir in chopped chives, green onions, parsley, and basil.
4.Serve hot with your choice of bread or crackers.
