Ingredients

2 pounds venison steaks
1 1/2 teaspoons seasoned salt , divided ( see Note )
1 cup all-purpose flour
4 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 cup onion , halved and sliced
2 beef bouillon cubes
1/2 teaspoon dried Mexican oregano
1 bay leaf
2 dried red chile peppers
2 cups water

Instructions

1.Season venison with 1 tsp of seasoned salt and coat with all-purpose flour
2.Heat vegetable oil in a Dutch oven over medium heat, and brown venison steaks on both sides in batches until well browned. Remove meat from pan and set aside
3.Add onions and sauté until soft. Add the remaining 1/2 tsp of seasoned salt and cumin, stir and cook for 1 minute
4.Return venison to the Dutch oven, sprinkle with oregano and add bay leaves, dried Mexican chilies, and beef bouillon cubes. Pour in water and bring to a boil.
5.Lower the heat, and let the venison simmer for about 2 hours, stirring occasionally, until the meat is tender, and the sauce is thick and flavorful.
6.Serve with rice or mashed potatoes.
