1 tablespoon white sugar
salt to taste
4 bay leaves
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
1 can stewed tomatoes
1 can tomato sauce
2 teaspoons gumbo file powder
2 tablespoons bacon drippings
2 packages frozen cut okra , thawed
2 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
1 pound lump crabmeat
3 pounds uncooked medium shrimp , peeled and deveined
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

1.In a large pot, whisk together flour and 3/4 cup bacon drippings over medium-low heat to form a roux.

4.Add water, beef bouillon, sugar, salt, bay leaves, thyme, stewed tomatoes, and tomato sauce. Bring to a boil then reduce heat to low and let simmer for 2 hours.
5.After 2 hours, add 2 teaspoons gumbo file powder.
6.In a separate skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of bacon drippings over medium-high heat. Cook okra with vinegar for 30 minutes, stirring often.
7.Add okra mixture, crabmeat, and shrimp to the pot, Cook for an additional 30 minutes.
8.Add Worcestershire sauce and remaining 2 teaspoons gumbo file powder and stir well. Cook for another 10 minutes.
9.Serve hot over rice.
