Ingredients

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour ( sift before measuring )
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup shortening
1 egg
2/3 cup milk ( approximately )
2/3 cup corn flake crumbs
5 cups sliced pared apples
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 egg white , lightly beaten
1 cup icing sugar
2 tablespoons lemon juice

Instructions

1.In a bowl, sift together flour, 1 tsp salt, and 1 tbsp sugar. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

3.Divide dough in half and roll out one half to fit into a 15x10x1 inch baking pan. Sprinkle with corn flake crumbs.
4.Cover with sliced apples. Mix together 1 1/2 cups sugar, cinnamon, and 1 tsp salt. Sprinkle over the apples.
5.Roll out remaining dough and place on top of apple mixture. Prick all over with fork and brush with beaten egg white.
6.Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 45 to 50 minutes, or until nicely browned.
7.Mix together icing sugar and lemon juice and spread on top of squares. Cut into squares and serve.
