Ingredients

1 large egg
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce , divided
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard , divided ( Grey Poupon style )
kosher salt & freshly ground black pepper , to taste
3/4 lb extra lean ground beef
1/4 lb sweet Italian sausage , casings removed
1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs
1/2 small yellow onion , coarsely grated
2 large garlic cloves , finely grated
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 tablespoons unsalted butter , divided
3 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon cornstarch
8 ounces mushrooms , stemmed thinly sliced

Instructions

1.In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the egg, half portion of Worcestershire sauce, and half portion of Dijon mustard, salt and pepper until fully mixed.
2.Add in the ground beef, sausage, bread crumbs, grated onion and garlic to the mixing bowl. Mix them all together until just combined. Form the mixture into 8 oval-shaped patties.
3.Heat the vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat and fry the patties for 5 minutes per side or until browned.
4.Remove the patties from the frying pan and set aside. Add 1 tablespoon of the butter to the frying pan with the mushrooms and cook for 2 minutes until softened.
5.Add the beef broth to the frying pan and scrape the bottom of the pan to loosen any brown bits. Turn the heat down to medium and simmer for 5 minutes.
6.In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the remaining Worcestershire sauce and Dijon mustard with cornstarch and stir it into the mushroom gravy. Simmer for another 2 minutes to thicken the sauce.
7.Return the patties to the frying pan and cover with the gravy. Let everything simmer together for 5 minutes or until the patties are heated through. Serve and enjoy!
