Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
2.In a medium bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and cocoa. Stir in ground filberts or almonds.
3.Cream butter with 1 tablespoon butter in a large bowl until light.
4.Gradually work in the sifted ingredients until well blended.
5.Divide the mixture into 4 equal parts. Form each part into a roll 1 1/4 inches thick. Cut each roll into 8 pieces.
6.Place pieces on ungreased baking sheets. Press center of each piece with thumb and smooth to form slight depression.
7.Sprinkle vanilla sugar over the top of each Bear Paw.
8.Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until firm and brown. Remove and let cool on wire racks.
