Ingredients

4 cups flour
2 envelopes yeast
1 cup butter
4 egg yolks , save whites
1 cup sour cream
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 cups ground nuts
1 cup sugar
4 egg whites , stiffly beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
Kifles (Nut Rolls or Horns) are a traditional pastry from Hungary, but are also popular in Austria, Poland, Slovakia, Serbia and Croatia. These crescent-shaped pastries are filled with ground walnuts or other nuts mixed with sugar and vanilla. Due to their sweet and nutty taste, Kifles make a great treat for breakfast or snack time. Instructions

1.In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup warm water.
2.Meanwhile, beat together butter, egg yolks, sour cream, powdered sugar, granulated sugar and 2 cups flour.
3.Add yeast mixture and beat well together.
4.Gradually add enough additional flour to make a soft but not sticky dough.
5.Cover and refrigerate overnight or for at least 2 hours.
6.Preheat oven to 375°F.
7.On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to 1/8 inch thickness.
8.To make filling, combine ground nuts, 1 cup sugar, egg whites and vanilla in a bowl.
9.Spread the nut mixture over the rolled out dough.
10.Cut the dough into strips and roll up jelly-roll fashion.
11.Arrange on a well-greased baking sheet, allowing room for rolls to rise.
12.Bake for 25-35 minutes, or until lightly browned. Cool completely before serving.
