Ingredients

1 large onion , grated
1 lb ground beef or 1 lb ground veal
1 lb ground pork
1 tablespoon fresh thyme leave
2 ounces fresh white breadcrumbs
3 tablespoons milk
salt and pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 ounce butter
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 1/4 cups red wine
3 1/4 cups beef broth , hot
1 -2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 dash double cream ( optional )
2 teaspoons red currant jelly

Instructions

1.In a large bowl, combine the grated onion, ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, thyme leaves, salt, and pepper.
2.Mix everything well until everything is well combined.
3.With wet hands, form the mixture into small meatballs approximately the size of golf balls, gently pressing them together to keep their shape.
4.Heat the olive oil over medium-high heat in a large skillet. Add the meatballs and cook until golden brown on all sides.
5.5.Remove the meatballs with a slotted spoon and set aside.
6.In the same skillet, melt 1 ounce of butter over medium heat. Add the flour and stir until smooth and lightly golden.
7.Stir in the tomato paste and gradually pour in the red wine and beef broth while stirring continuously.
8.Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and add the Worcestershire sauce and redcurrant jelly.
9.Add the meatballs back to the skillet and simmer for 10-15 minutes, until the meatballs are cooked through and the sauce has thickened.
10.Remove from heat and stir in a dash of double cream (optional) before serving.
