Ingredients

1 1/2 lbs beef chuck ( with bones )
6 cups water
1 onion , peeled
1 carrot , peeled and sliced
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon whole allspice
1 teaspoon dried marjoram
1 bay leaf
1 small piece rutabagas or 1 small turnip
1 tablespoon chopped parsley
5 potatoes ( medium , preferably Russet )
1/4 cup broth
1/2 cup flour
1 large egg
1/4 teaspoon salt ( or up to 1/2 tsp )
Finnish Beef and Dumpling Soup, or Klimppisoppa, is a traditional dish from Finland. It is commonly enjoyed during the long, cold winter months. The soup is comforting and filling, with chunks of tender beef, soft vegetables, and chewy dumplings. Instructions

1.Rinse and pat dry the beef chuck. Cut into bite-sized pieces.
2.Add the beef, water, onion, carrot, allspice, marjoram, bay leaf, salt, and rutabagas or turnip into a large pot. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat to low. Cover and let simmer for 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
3.After the beef has cooked for 1 1/2 hours, peel and cut the potatoes into bite-sized pieces and add them to the pot. Cook for an additional 20 minutes.
4.While the potatoes are cooking, make the dumplings. Combine the flour, egg, broth, and salt in a bowl and mix to form a sticky dough.
5.Once the potatoes are cooked, drop small spoonfuls of the dumpling dough into the soup. Let cook for 5 minutes uncovered and then 10 minutes covered.
6.Serve hot and garnish with chopped parsley.
