Tippaleivät is a traditional Finnish May Day treat that is also enjoyed on other special occasions. Tippaleipä is derived from the Finnish word ‘Tippa’ means ‘a drop’. This sweet recipe is really popular among Finnish and is usually served at fairs, carnivals and outdoors markets. Fritters are given a shape like small cornets or sea shells. Traditionally, people use Tippaleipä mold, but it can also be made using a piping bag or a funnel. The perfect fritter is crispy on the outside, fluffy and airy on the inside, and has a nice, sweet flavor.

Instructions

1.In a mixing bowl, beat together the eggs and sugar until the mixture turns airy.
2.Add salt, milk, vanilla, and flour, and whisk until the dough is even.
3.Use a deep fryer or a deep pan to heat up the oil to 350°F.
4.Using a Tippaleipä mold or a piping bag, carefully pour the dough into the hot oil in thin streams.
5.Fry until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side. Use a slotted spoon to remove the fritters from the oil and let them cool down on a paper towel before serving.
6.Optional: mix some powdered sugar with a bit of cinnamon and sprinkle it on top of the fritters for extra flavor.
