Boston Coffee Cake is a classic American dessert that was born in Massachusetts in the 1950s. It typically consists of a yellow cake flavored with cinnamon and topped with a streusel crumb topping. This version of the cake is a bit different, as it has a sweet roll-like texture filled with butter, nuts, and sugar. The addition of cardamom gives the cake a unique flavor that complements the other ingredients perfectly.

Instructions

.Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
.In a small bowl, crumble the fresh yeast and add a tablespoon of sugar.
.Heat the milk until lukewarm, then add the crumbled yeast mixture and let it sit for 10 minutes.
.In a separate bowl, mix the flour, remaining sugar, salt, and cardamom together.
.Add in the yeast mixture and beaten egg and mix well to form a dough.
.Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes, then cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
.Roll out the dough to a thickness of 1/4 inch (6 mm) and spread the softened butter over it, leaving a small border around the edges.
.Sprinkle the ground almonds, chopped hazelnuts, and vanilla sugar over the buttered dough.
.Roll up the dough tightly from one end and place the roll in a greased springform pan.
.Brush the top of the roll with beaten egg and sprinkle with pearl sugar.
.Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown.
.Allow the cake to cool for 10 minutes before removing it from the pan.
