Ingredients

2 packages yeast
1/2 cup granulated sugar , plus
1 tablespoon granulated sugar , for yeast mixture
1 cup water , about 110F
1 cup milk , warmed
1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine , melted
1 teaspoon salt
6 1/2 cups flour
3 eggs , beaten
fruit ( of your choice-sliced apples , apricots , peaches , berries , or seedless grapes are all good )
1 egg , beaten
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 cup sour cream , thickened with a little flour ( a tablespoon or two should do it )
1/2 cup butter , melted

Instructions

1.In a small bowl, activate the yeast by dissolving 1 tablespoon of sugar in warm water and sprinkle yeast over it. Set aside to bloom for few minutes.
2.In a large bowl, combine warm milk, melted butter, remaining sugar, salt, and 3 cups of flour. Mix well.
3.Add in beaten eggs and activated yeast mixture. Stir well.
4.Add in the remaining flour, 1 cup at a time, to make a soft dough.
5.Turn out the dough onto a floured surface and knead until it becomes smooth and elastic.
6.Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth and let it rise until doubled in size.
7.Preheat oven to 375°F.
8.Roll the dough to fit a greased baking sheet.
9.Arrange fruit slices on top of the dough and brush with beaten egg.
10.In a separate bowl, whisk sugar, sour cream, and melted butter together. Add flour and mix again until the mixture is smooth.
11.Pour over the fruit and spread it evenly.
12.Bake for 40-45 minutes, until golden brown.
