Ingredients

1 1/2 lbs lean ground beef
1/4 cup finely chopped sweet onion
2 eggs , slightly beaten
3/4 cup soft breadcrumbs
1/4 cup ketchup
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons butter
8 ounces sliced mushrooms
6 slices cheddar cheese ( or Mozzarella or American cheese )
6 split buns , toasted

Instructions

1.Preheat a grill or a frying pan.
2.In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, sweet onion, eggs, breadcrumbs, ketchup, salt, and pepper. Mix well and shape into 12 patties.
3.In a pan, melt the butter and sauté the mushrooms until they are tender. Cool slightly and spoon the mushrooms onto six patties. Top each with a slice of cheese.
4.Place the remaining six patties on top of the cheese-topped ones and seal the edges well.
5.Grill or fry the cheeseburgers over medium heat for about 4-6 minutes on each side or until desired doneness.
6.Toast the buns and assemble the burgers.
