3 lbs Italian plums ( prune plums or Empress plums )
2 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 pinch salt
1/4 cup butter
1 egg , beaten

2 -3 ounces milk ( rough estimate )
1 tablespoon sugar , for sprinkling ( optional )

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
2.Sift flour and baking powder together into a medium bowl. Add salt and sugar and mix well.
3.Cut butter into small pieces and add to flour mixture.
4.Beat egg and almond extract together in a small bowl. Add to the flour mixture.
5.Slowly pour milk into the flour mixture until the dough comes together.
