Instructions

1.Rinse the string beans and trim the ends. Cut them into 1-inch pieces.

3.Put the beans and potatoes in a medium saucepan with enough water to cover them by half an inch.
4.Add salt and minced garlic to the saucepan and stir.
5.Bring the water to a boil and cook for about 15-20 minutes or until tender.
6.Melt 2 tablespoons of butter or margarine in a saucepan over medium heat.
7.Whisk in enough flour to make a blond roux.
8.Gradually add 1-1/2 cups of the remaining water from the beans and potatoes, whisking constantly until the mixture thickens.
9.Once the mixture is thickened, stir it into the beans and potatoes.
10.Add salt to taste.
