Ingredients

4 slices beef top round steak
salt and pepper , to taste
prepared mustard
3 onions , finely chopped
3 slices bacon , chopped
1 large dill pickle , sliced
1 tablespoon vegetable shortening
1 teaspoon tomato paste
1 1/2 cups beef stock
1 tablespoon flour
dry red wine

Instructions

3.Heat the shortening in a large skillet over medium-high heat, and brown the beef rolls quickly on all sides. Remove from the skillet.
4.Stir in the tomato paste and beef stock, and bring to a boil. Return the beef rolls to the skillet. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 1 1/2 hours until the meat is tender.
5.Remove the beef rolls from the skillet, and keep warm. Mix the flour with a little cold water, and stir into the sauce. Pour in a little red wine, and cook for 2-3 minutes longer.
6.Remove the strings or toothpicks from the beef rolls, and serve with the sauce.
