Ingredients

1/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup sour cream
1/4 teaspoon caraway seed , crushed
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup sauerkraut , drained
3/4 tablespoon butter , melted
12 slices country bread
18 slices swiss cheese
6 slices ham ( thinly sliced )

Instructions

1.In a bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, sour cream, caraway seeds, and black pepper. Set aside.
2.Preheat your oven to broil.
3.In a pan, heat the sauerkraut over medium heat until warm. Remove from heat.
4.Brush the melted butter on one side of each slice of bread.
5.Place 6 slices of bread on a baking sheet, butter side up. Place 3 slices of swiss cheese on each slice of bread.
6.Place the baking sheet in the oven and broil for 1-2 minutes until the cheese melts and the bread is lightly toasted.
7.Remove the baking sheet from the oven. Top each slice of cheesy bread with a slice of ham, and then add a spoonful of sauerkraut onto each slice.
8.Add one more slice of swiss cheese on top of each sandwich.
9.Lay another 6 slices of bread on top of the cheese slices, butter side up.
10.Place the baking sheet back in the oven and broil for 1-2 more minutes until the cheese is melted and the bread is toasted.
11.Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the sandwiches cool for a few minutes before cutting them into halves or fourths.
12.Serve the sandwiches with pickles on the side (optional).
