Houska is a traditional Czech bread that is often served for breakfast or brunch. It is a soft and buttery bread that is slightly sweet in flavor and has a fluffy texture. This bread is typically served with jam or honey, but it can also be eaten on its own. The dough is made with yeast, which gives it a light and airy texture, and it is flavored with lemon zest, mace, and nutmeg. While this bread may not be the healthiest food, it is a delicious treat that can be enjoyed in moderation.

Instructions

.In a small saucepan, warm the milk and butter together until the butter is melted.
.In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm water and let it sit for a few minutes until it becomes foamy.
.Add the eggs (reserving one egg white for later), flour, sugar, lemon zest, mace, and nutmeg to the bowl.
.Pour in the milk and butter mixture and stir everything together until it forms a soft dough.
.Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
.Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it with a damp cloth. Let it rise in a warm place for about an hour, or until it has doubled in size.
.Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
.Form the dough into a round loaf and place it on a greased baking sheet.
.Beat the reserved egg white in a small bowl and brush it over the top of the loaf.
.Bake the loaf in the preheated oven for about 35 to 40 minutes, or until it is golden brown on top and sounds hollow when tapped.
