Ingredients

1 tablespoon butter
1 large onion , chopped
3/4 pound ground pork
1/2 cup fresh bread crumbs
1 egg
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 head savoy cabbage , cored
2 cups chicken stock , or as needed
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 cup sour cream
1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill
Ukrainian Meat Filled Cabbage Rolls are a popular dish in Ukraine and other parts of Eastern Europe. They are often served during special occasions and celebrations. The dish consists of cabbage leaves filled with a savory mixture of ground pork, breadcrumbs, and spices. The rolls are then baked in a flavorful chicken stock until tender. These cabbage rolls are rich in flavor and satisfying to eat, making them a wonderful meal for colder months, or just a hearty family dinner.

Instructions

1.In a large pan of boiling water, cook cabbage leaves for 2 to 3 minutes or until wilted. Drain and cool under cold running water. Remove the tough stem from the bottom of the leaves.
2.In a pan, heat butter over medium heat and cook onion until tender. Add ground pork, bread crumbs, egg, salt, and pepper, stir until well combined.
3.Spoon 1/4 cup of filling onto each cabbage leaf, fold bottom edge over filling, fold opposing sides inwards and roll; repeat for remaining cabbage leaves and filling.
4.Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Place cabbage rolls seam side down in a baking dish. Pour chicken stock over rolls, cover with aluminum foil and bake for 1 1/2 hours.
5.In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour and sour cream. Mix into the sauce surrounding the cabbage rolls and continue to bake for another 10 minutes. Serve garnished with dill.
