Ingredients

750 g self-raising flour , sifted
1 1/2 liters milk
100 g butter
100 g sugar
1/4 - 1/2 cup sultana , raisins and peel
1 apple , grated ( eg Granny Smith )
1 egg
1 bottle beer , preferably a dark ale or stout ( I use Coopers stout here in Australia . )

Instructions

1.Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat.
2.Add the milk, sugar, and beer and whisk until well combined.
3.Add the flour in batches, stirring after each addition until a smooth batter forms.
4.Stir in the sultanas, raisins, peel, apple, and egg.
5.Heat a deep fryer to 175°C.
6.Using a large spoon, drop spoonfuls of the batter into the fryer and cook until golden brown and cooked through, about 5-6 minutes.
7.Remove the oliebollen from the fryer and place on a paper towel-lined plate to cool.
