Ingredients

2 lbs cooked potatoes
2 cups milk or 2 cups beef broth
4 tablespoons butter ( optional )
nutmeg
corn flake crumbs or breadcrumbs
2 onions
4 tablespoons butter or 4 tablespoons broth , for lower fat
1 1/2 - 2 cups left over beef , chopped ( such as roast or steak )
1/2 cup beef broth , seasoned with
maggi seasoning
bay leaf
pepper
ground cloves , to taste
Jachtschotel, also known as Hunter’s Casserole, is a traditional Dutch dish that has been around for centuries. Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 380°F/200°C.
2.Slice half an onion into thin rings and sauté in 2 tablespoons of butter until soft and caramelized. Set aside.
3.In a pot, heat up 2 cups of milk or 2 cups of beef broth and add in 4 tablespoons of butter (optional) and some nutmeg. Add cooked potatoes and mash until smooth.
4.In a skillet, heat up 4 tablespoons of butter or 4 tablespoons of broth for lower fat. Sauté the other half of the onion until soft. Add in 1 1/2 - 2 cups left over beef, chopped (such as roast or steak), and stir until heated through.
5.Grease an oven-safe dish with butter and add a layer of mashed potatoes. Pour half of the beef broth, seasoned with maggi seasoning, bay leaf, pepper, and ground cloves, on top and stir a little. Add a layer of beef and onions next. Repeat layers of potatoes, broth, and beef or onions as needed, ending with a layer of potatoes on top.
6.Sprinkle corn flake crumbs or breadcrumbs on top and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes until everything is hot and bubbly. Let sit for 5 minutes before serving.
