1 cup potato , freshly riced
2 eggs
2/3 cup sugar
1 cup buttermilk or 1 cup yogurt
2 tablespoons butter , melted
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons double-acting baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
2/3 teaspoon salt
1/3 teaspoon nutmeg or 1/3 teaspoon cinnamon

They are a type of doughnut but with a potato-based dough and a unique texture. Fastnachts are commonly eaten with syrup, honey, or powdered sugar sprinkled on top. Instructions

1.In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the riced potato, eggs and sugar until smooth.
2.Add in the buttermilk and melted butter, and mix well.
3.In a separate bowl, combine all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, nutmeg or cinnamon.
4.Gradually add this flour mixture into the wet ingredients, stirring until smooth.
5.Cover the mixing bowl with a clean cloth and let it rest for an hour in a warm place.
6.Preheat a deep fryer to 375°F or heat 2 inches of oil in a deep heavy-duty pan.
7.Scoop the dough by rounded tablespoons and drop one by one in the hot oil, frying for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden-brown.
8.Remove the fried Fastnachts carefully using a slotted spoon and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to cool.
9.Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve while still warm.
