Ingredients

3 eggs
2 tablespoons Crisco , melted ( shortening or leaf lard )
2 tablespoons milk
2 tablespoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups flour , sifted
oil or shortening ( for frying )
3 cups flour , sifted ( plus extra flour for kneading and cutting )
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon brandy ( M-I-L uses blackberry brandy )
3/4 cup sugar

2 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup milk

Guanti and Chruscik are a traditional sweet Italian pastry similar to Polish Chruscik pastry. It is widely consumed during Christmas or Easter holidays in Catholic households or Italian-American communities. This delicious treat is perfect for sharing among loved ones and guests during holiday celebrations or Sunday brunches. Guanti (glove) is uniquely shaped into a glove, while Chruscik is a thin twisted sweet dough much like a bowtie. The two recipes have different variations depending on the region and the ingredients available in the area.

Instructions

1.In a bowl, beat eggs, milk, sugar, salt, Crisco and vanilla until combined.
2.Add in sifted flour gradually until the mixture becomes soft.
3.Turn onto a floured surface and knead until the dough is smooth and soft.
4.Cut the dough into equal pieces, and keep them on a clean cloth at room temperature for about 20- 30 minutes.
5.Roll out each piece into a thin layer using a rolling pin then cut into strips then make a knot into them.
6.Deep-fry the knots in oil or shortening until they become golden brown.
7.In a large mixing bowl, beat eggs, sugar, salt, cream cheese or sour cream, milk, butter, baking powder, flour, vanilla, brandy and cream using a hand mixer until smooth and well blended.
8.Dip the deep-fried knots in the bowl with the egg mixture and then return them to the hot oil to fry until brown.
9.Remove and set on paper towels to drain. Serve.

Guanti and Chruscik are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

It is an easy-to-make dish, and the recipe uses common ingredients found in the pantry.
