Chrusciki-Bow Knots, also known as Angel Wings or Faworki, are a traditional Polish pastry often served during the holidays and special occasions. They are light, flaky, and crispy with a touch of citrus flavor, making them perfect for tea time or as a sweet treat after a meal. The knots resemble bow ties or angel wings that symbolize lightness and purity. The dough is made from eggs, butter, sugar, sour cream, and a little cognac that give the knots a unique flavor and texture. The best part of these tasty treats is that they are easy to make, and the dough can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator or freezer.

Instructions

.In a large bowl, mix eggs, egg yolks, melted butter, granulated sugar, salt, orange extract, vanilla extract, fresh lemon rind, fresh orange rind, cognac, and sour cream until it’s well combined.
.Add flour gradually and mix to form a dough.
.Divide the dough into three parts and roll each one out on a floured board or counter until thin.
.Cut the thin dough into strips measuring approximately 2 inches by 5 inches.
.Cut a slit in the center of each strip.
.Pull one end of the dough through the slit to create a knot-like shape
.Heat the Crisco and lard (or just Crisco if kosher) in a deep frying pan until hot enough.
.Fry the knots until golden brown, about 30 seconds per side, turning carefully.
.Set the knots on paper towels to drain and cool.
.Dust the knots with powdered sugar before serving.
