Ingredients

3/4 cup water , lukewarm 110 degrees F
1/4 teaspoon granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon sea salt or 1/4 teaspoon table salt
1/2 teaspoon active dry yeast
1/4 cup corn oil
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
nonstick cooking spray ( for greasing your pan )
12 ounces mozzarella cheese , sliced ( low moisture , approximately 15 slices )
3/4 lb Italian sausage , raw
16 ounces crushed tomatoes , lightly drained
1/8 cup romano cheese , grated or 1/8 cup parmesan cheese

Chicago-style deep dish is unique from other pizza in its dough and baking method. It’s characterized by a thick, crunchy crust that is baked and then piled high with cheese, sausage, and sauce. Instructions

1.Dissolve sugar and salt in warm water in a mixing bowl
2.Add the yeast and let sit for 5 minutes
3.Add the oil to the yeast mixture in the bowl
4.Add all-purpose flour to the mixture and stir until all the flour is incorporated
5.Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth and pliable
6.Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it rest for 30 minutes
7.Cook the sausage in a pan until browned. Break it up into small pieces while cooking
8.Lightly grease a 9-10 inch cake pan or a deep dish pizza pan and push the rested dough into it, making sure it reaches the edges and the bottom is covered in dough
9.Place the cooked sausage on top of the dough
10.Add thinly sliced mozzarella cheese on top of the sausage
11.Pour crushed tomatoes on top of the cheese, spreading it evenly
12.Add grated Romano cheese or Parmesan cheese on top of the tomatoes
13.Cover the pan with plastic wrap and let the pizza dough rise for 30-45 more minutes.
14.Preheat the oven to 425°F and bake the pizza in the lower third of the oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted
