10 sugar cubes
2 bottles red wine
1 cinnamon stick
1 whole nutmeg
1 whole star anise pods
1 1/2 cups sour cherries - drained , juice reserved
1 orange , thinly sliced
3 fluid ounces kirschwasser

Instructions

1.In a pot, dissolve sugar cubes in red wine over low heat.
2.Add cinnamon stick, grated nutmeg, whole star anise, sour cherries and orange slices to the wine mixture.
3.Strain the mulled wine through a sieve and then return it to the pot.
4.Stir in kirschwasser and reserved cherry juice.
5.Gently heat the wine mixture, but be careful not to boil it.
