1 2/3 cups bittersweet chocolate chips , divided
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup light brown sugar
1/4 cup butter , softened
2 large eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons almond extract
1 cup slivered almonds , toasted

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
2.Melt 1 cup chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl for 30 seconds. Stir and heat again in 15 seconds increments, stirring in between, until fully melted.
3.In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt and keep aside.
4.In a mixing bowl, beat sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time and beat until fully combined. Add melted chocolate and almond extract, beat together.
5.Add the flour mixture and stir until just combined. Fold in remaining 2/3 cup chocolate chips and almonds.
6.Divide the dough into two and shape into loaves. Place them on a lined baking sheet and bake for 25 minutes, until golden brown.
7.Allow to cool for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cutting board and cut into slices about 1/2-inch thick. Arrange the slices cut side down on the baking sheet and bake for 7 - 10 minutes.
