Mom's "Swiss Steak" is a classic and comforting dish that has been enjoyed for generations. This recipe is a family favorite, passed down from my great-grandmother and perfected over time. The tender round steaks are smothered in a rich tomato-based sauce that is slow-cooked to perfection. The addition of sliced carrots adds a pop of color and extra nutrition to the dish. This recipe is perfect for busy weeknights or lazy weekends when you want to enjoy good food with minimal effort. Serve it over rice or with a side of roasted vegetables for a complete meal.

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
2.In a large skillet, brown the round steaks on both sides over medium-high heat. Remove from skillet and place in a large baking dish.
3.In the same skillet, sauté the sliced onions and carrots until they are tender. Add the condensed tomato soup and stir to combine. Pour the mixture over the round steaks in the baking dish, making sure they are fully covered.
4.Add 1-2 cups of water to the baking dish until the liquid level reaches about halfway up the steaks. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
5.Cover the baking dish with foil and place in the preheated oven. Bake for 2-3 hours or until the meat is tender and fully cooked through.
6.Remove from the oven and thicken the sauce with cornstarch if desired. Serve hot and enjoy!
