Ingredients

2 cups granulated sugar
1/8 teaspoon coarse salt
2 sheets puff pastry , defrosted
colored sugar sprinkle , to sprinkle on top if you desire
Palmiers are a French pastry, which means 'palm leaves' and are also known as Elephantears. This delicate pastry is made from puff pastry dough, and the shape resembles a heart, which makes them perfect for Valentine’s Day. The sugar-crusted dough is crispy and flaky, and inside, they are light and airy. They can be brought from a bakery but nothing is quite like making them yourself, especially for the ones you love. There are many variations of Palmiers, including savory ones filled with cheese or ham.

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2.Combine sugar and salt in a small bowl and sprinkle the mixture on a work surface.
3.Roll each sheet of puff pastry into a 12”x 10” (30cm x 25cm) rectangle, making sure the sugar is pressed into the dough.
4.Fold the long sides of the dough towards the center and press again with sugar.
5.Use a sharp knife and cut the dough into 1/2 inch slices and place on a baking sheet.
6.Sprinkle some colored sugar on top and bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown in color.
7.Remove from the oven and transfer them to a wire rack to cool. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
