Ingredients

2 1/2 lbs lean beef chuck , cut into 1 1/2 inch chunks
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 can condensed beef broth
1 cup Burgundy wine or 1 cup dry red wine
2 cloves garlic , minced
3 large carrots , peeled and cut into 1 inch chunks
2 potatoes , peeled and cut into 1 inch chunks
1/2 lb small whole fresh mushrooms , cleaned
1 package frozen pearl onions
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C).

5.Cook meat in batches until browned on all sides, then remove from pot and set aside.

7.Add beef broth, wine and seasoning mixture to the pot, bring to a simmer while stirring.
8.Add meat, garlic, carrots and potatoes to the pot with the broth-wine mixture.
9.Cover and bake in the oven for 1.5-2 hours or until the meat is tender.
10.In a medium frying pan over medium-high heat, cook mushrooms and onions until they are browned, then remove from the heat and add to the pot.
11.In a small bowl, whisk together water and flour. Add flour mixture to the pot, bring to a simmer while stirring and cook for a few minutes until the sauce thickens.
12.Serve hot with crusty bread or over steamed rice.
