The Marianne Baguette is a traditional, rustic French bread that has been enjoyed for centuries. This bread, with its hard, crusty exterior and soft, chewy interior, is a staple in French cuisine and can be found in bakeries and households all over France. The bread's history dates back to the early 19th century when French bakers were asked to create a bread that was easy to make and transport. Today, the baguette is considered a symbol of France and its cuisine, and is a must-try for anyone visiting the country. This recipe captures the essence of a classic French baguette and is perfect for those wanting to make an authentic bread at home.

Instructions

1.In a small bowl, mix the dried yeast with 1/2 cup of warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes.
2.In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread flour and natural sea salt.
3.In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the honey and butter together. Remove from the heat and stir in the milk, making sure that it is lukewarm. If it is too hot, let it cool.
4.Pour the yeast mixture and the lukewarm honey and milk mixture into the large mixing bowl with the bread flour and natural sea salt. Mix all the ingredients well to form a soft dough.
5.Lightly flour a surface and turn the dough out onto it. Knead the dough for 10 minutes until it is smooth and pliable. Place the dough back in the mixing bowl and cover it with a damp cloth. Leave to rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1 to 2 hours or until it has doubled in size.
6.Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Punch down the dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Cut it into 2 pieces and lightly floured a cookie sheet. Place the dough on the cookie sheet and shape them into long, thin baguettes. Cover with a damp cloth and leave to rise again for 15 minutes.
7.Dust the top of the baguettes with a little flour and make a series of slashes on each one with a sharp knife. Place the baguettes in the oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until golden brown and firm to the touch. Remove from the oven and let cool before serving.
