Tzatziki is a popular Greek yogurt dip made with cucumbers, garlic, lemon juice, and fresh herbs. It is a versatile sauce that can be used as a dip, spread, or dressing for a variety of dishes. Tzatziki is traditionally served with gyros, pita bread, and grilled meats, but it can also be enjoyed as a healthy snack or appetizer. This homemade version of tzatziki is quick, easy, and customizable to your liking. The addition of fresh mint adds a refreshing burst of flavor and fragrance that pairs well with the cool creaminess of the yogurt and the tangy taste of the lemon juice.

Instructions

1.Prep the cucumbers by peeling them, cutting them in half lengthwise, and scraping out the seeds with a spoon. Then, finely grate the cucumber and place it in a fine mesh strainer. Sprinkle a pinch of salt over the grated cucumber and set aside to drain for 10-15 minutes.
2.In a medium mixing bowl, combine the yogurt, garlic, lemon juice, and olive oil. Mix well.
3.Use your hands to squeeze out as much liquid as possible from the grated cucumber. Add the cucumber to the yogurt mixture and stir.
4.Taste the sauce and add more salt, garlic, or lemon juice if needed. If desired, season with black pepper and stir in the chopped mint.
5.Cover the sauce and refrigerate for at least an hour before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld together.

PROS

This sauce is a healthy and flavorful alternative to traditional dips and condiments.

It is low in calories, high in protein, and rich in vitamins and minerals.

It can be used as a dip for veggies, crackers, or pita chips, or as a topping for grilled meats, seafood, or roasted vegetables.

CONS

The sauce may be thin and watery if the cucumbers are not drained properly.

Too much salt or garlic can overpower the other flavors, so it’s important to taste and adjust as needed.

Not everyone enjoys the taste of mint, so it can be omitted if desired.
