Petoules, also known as tiganites, are a traditional Greek pancake that is easy to make and delicious to eat. Slightly sweetened with honey and dusted with powdered sugar, they make for a perfect breakfast or dessert. What sets these pancakes apart is their unique crispy texture, which comes from being pan-fried to perfection. Cinnamon also adds a slightly warm and comforting flavor, making these pancakes a true delight.

Instructions

1.In a large mixing bowl, mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, and cinnamon.
2.Add egg, water, and milk to the bowl, whisking until the batter is smooth. Let it sit for 10 minutes to rest.
3.Drop spoonfuls of the batter onto a heated, greased, non-stick pan. Cook until bubbles appear on the surface and the edges start to crisp
4.Flip and cook until golden brown. Remove from the pan and serve drizzled with honey and a sprinkle of powdered sugar.

PROS

Petoules are easy to make and only require a few simple ingredients.
They are also crispy and light, making them a great treat for any time of day.

CONS

As with any pancake recipe, there is the potential for sticking or burning if not properly cooked.
Additionally, while the honey and powdered sugar toppings add flavor, they also add extra calories and sugar.

HEALTH & BENEFITS

While not the healthiest dessert option, the use of honey in this recipe provides a natural form of sugar. Cinnamon has been linked to aiding in blood sugar control and has anti-inflammatory properties.
