Ingredients

3 cups water
2 cups sugar
1/4 cup rum or 1 teaspoon rum extract
1 slice lemon
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 lb butter or 1/2 lb margarine , softened

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch pan.
2.In a medium saucepan, combine the water, 2 cups of sugar, rum, lemon slice and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
3.Remove the lemon slice and set the syrup aside.
4.In a large bowl, cream together the butter and 1 cup of sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the flour, farina, baking powder, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and orange zest. Stir in the chopped walnuts.
5.Pour the batter into the prepared pan, and bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
6.Remove the cake from the oven, and immediately pour the syrup over the cake. Allow the cake to cool before serving.
