Ingredients

2 cups coarsely chopped pecans

12 sheets phyllo pastry
2/3 cup butter , melted
3/4 cup liquid honey
1/4 cup orange juice

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
2.In a bowl, mix together the chopped pecans, dates, chopped chocolate, sugar, cinnamon, and grated orange rind.
3.Unroll the phyllo pastry and place a sheet on a baking tray.
4.Brush the pastry lightly with melted butter and add another sheet on top. Brush the second sheet with melted butter and repeat the process until there are 6 layers.
5.Spread the pecan mixture over the top layer of the pastry.
6.Layer another 6 sheets of pastry, brushing each with melted butter, on top of the pecan mixture.
7.Make diagonal cuts in the pastry to create diamond-shaped pieces.
8.Bake the baklava for 30−40 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
9.While the baklava is baking, prepare the syrup by stirring together the honey, orange juice, and chopped chocolate in a small saucepan on low heat until smooth and combined.
10.Once the baklava is cooked, remove it from the oven and pour the honey syrup over it.
11.Allow the baklava to cool for 20 minutes before serving.
