Instructions

.In a small saucepan, heat the milk to just below boiling and remove from heat. Let cool.
.In a large bowl, combine 4 1/2 cups of the flour, sugar, and yeast. Mix well.
.In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, egg yolk, salt, butter, orange juice, orange zest, and vanilla extract. Add to the flour mixture and mix until a soft dough forms.
.Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, adding additional flour if necessary to prevent sticking.
.Form the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover with a clean towel and let rise in a warm, draft-free place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
.Punch down the dough and knead it briefly. Divide it into three equal parts and roll each part out into a long rope. Braid the ropes together and form into a circle or oval.
.Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Place the braided bread on a greased baking sheet and let rise for another 30 minutes.
.Brush the bread with a beaten egg or milk and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown.
