3/4 cup butter or 3/4 cup margarine , softened
3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 teaspoons orange zest
2 eggs
4 cups gold medal flour
1 egg white
2 tablespoons sugar
candied red cherries
green candied citron peel

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 375°F.
2.In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together.
3.Add shortening and orange zest, and beat until combined.
4.Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
5.Gradually add flour and stir until well mixed to form a dough.
6.On a lightly floured surface, roll dough into 1/2-inch diameter ropes.
7.Cut ropes into 3-inch lengths and shape each piece into a wreath.
8.Place on baking sheets.
9.Beat the egg white until stiff and brush the tops of the wreaths with it.
10.Sprinkle with sugar.
11.Cut cherries and peel into small pieces and place them on top of the wreaths.
12.Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
