Ingredients

4 large green bell peppers or 4 large red bell peppers
2 teaspoons coarse salt
1 lb extra lean ground meat or 1 lb ground venison
1/2 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper , coarsely ground
1 lemon , juice of
2/3 cup french breadcrumbs
1 1/4 cups jarlsberg cheese , diced
3 1/2 tablespoons butter
garlic salt , to taste
Jarlsberg Filled Peppers (Jarlsbergfylt Paprika) are a classic Norwegian dish that can be enjoyed year-round. Made with ground meat, Jarlsberg cheese, and bell peppers, this recipe is hearty and filling. The peppers are first hollowed out and rubbed with salt and then stuffed with the meat and cheese mixture. They are then baked in the oven until the peppers are tender and the cheese is melted. This dish can be enjoyed as a main course or as a side dish to a larger meal.

Instructions

1.Preheat your oven to 400 F.
2.Cut off the tops of the peppers. Remove the seeds and white membranes of the peppers, and rub the insides with coarse salt.
3.Mix the ground meat, Tabasco sauce, garlic salt, black pepper, lemon juice, and breadcrumbs together in a large bowl. Kneed the mixture well with your hands.
4.Dice the Jarlsberg cheese and mix it into the meat mixture.
5.Stuff the peppers with the meat and cheese mixture, and replace their tops. Add some garlic salt and small bits of butter onto the tops of the peppers.
6.Bake the peppers in a preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes or until the peppers are tender.
