Ingredients

4 ounces margarine or 4 ounces butter
2 eggs
1/2 pint milk
1 lb flour
4 ounces sugar
1 ounce yeast
3 3 ounces raisins or 3 ounces sultanas
Belgian Buns are a classic breakfast or afternoon tea snack. These sweet, soft buns are traditionally flavored with raisins or sultanas and are perfect when served with a cup of tea or coffee. With their golden brown crust and soft, fluffy dough, they are a treat for both the eyes and the stomach. While these buns are not very healthy due to their high sugar content, they are ideal for indulging in once in a while as part of a balanced diet.

Instructions

1.Heat the milk in a saucepan until it's just boiling, then turn off the heat and leave it to cool.
2.In a large mixing bowl, mix the flour, sugar and yeast.
3.Add the margarine or butter, eggs and cooled milk to the mixing bowl and combine.
4.Knead the mixture on a floured surface for a few minutes to form a smooth dough.
5.Return the dough to the mixing bowl, cover with a tea towel and leave to rise for 1-2 hours.
6.Preheat the oven to 200C/430F/Gas Mark 6.
7.Roll out the dough to a thickness of 1cm and cut into 12 equal portions.
8.Place the portions onto a baking tray, sprinkle raisins or sultanas on top and leave to rise for an additional 15 minutes.
9.Bake the buns in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, until risen and golden. Allow to cool before serving.
