10 large potatoes
3 onions
20 anchovy fillets
300 ml cream
15 g breadcrumbs
30 g butter
Janssen's Temptation, also known as Jansson's Frestelse, is a classic Swedish potato casserole dish that has been enjoyed for over a century. It was named after Pelle Janzon, a food-loving Swedish opera singer who popularized the dish. The creamy and savory casserole consists of thinly sliced potatoes, onions, anchovy fillets, and a rich cream sauce baked to perfection. It is typically served as a side dish to meatballs or ham, but can also be enjoyed as a main dish with a side salad.

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 175 C (350 F).
2.Peel and thinly slice potatoes and onions.
3.Grease a baking dish and arrange a layer of potatoes and onions, alternating, in the bottom.
4.Place half of the anchovy fillets on top of the potatoes and onions.
5.Repeat with another layer of potatoes, onions, and anchovy fillets.
6.Pour cream over the layered potatoes and add a few small pieces of butter on top.
7.Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 40 minutes.
8.Remove the foil and evenly sprinkle breadcrumbs over the top.
9.Bake uncovered for an additional 15-25 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are tender.
