Instructions

1.In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, powdered sugar, and a pinch of salt.
2.In another mixing bowl, crumble the fresh yeast and dissolve it in a few tablespoons of warm milk.
3.Using a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment, combine the flour mixture, dissolved yeast mixture, and egg yolks, adding more milk as needed to form a soft and elastic dough.
4.Knead the dough by hand or using the stand mixer for approximately 15 minutes until smooth and elastic.
5.Cover the dough with a clean towel and set it aside to rise in a warm place for at least 1 hour.
6.Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
7.In a small mixing bowl, beat the egg, then brush it over the surface of the risen dough.
8.In another small mixing bowl, combine the chopped walnuts and granulated sugar.
9.Sprinkle the walnut-sugar mixture over the surface of the egg-brushed dough, ensuring it covers the entire surface.
10.Cut the dough into equal strips, approximately 1 inch wide.
11.Roll each strip around a wooden stick or dowel to form a spiral and place them on the lined baking sheet.
12.Bake the trdelnik in the preheated oven for 20-30 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
13.Remove them from the oven and cool them on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
