Mr Falafel’s British “Fish n Chips” is a vegan twist on the classic British dish, which is typically made with deep-fried cod or haddock and served with thick-cut chips and malt vinegar. In this vegan version, firm tofu is used instead of fish, and it is coated with a beer-based batter and deep-fried until crispy. The result is a savory, crunchy tofu that pairs perfectly with the crispy chips and the tangy malt vinegar. The dish is easy to make and perfect for a vegan-friendly meal that the whole family can enjoy.

Instructions

1.In a mixing bowl, whisk the flour, beer, paprika, salt, and pepper until well combined and smooth. Set aside.
2.Cut the firm tofu into thick slices and pat them dry with paper towels. Dip the tofu slices into the prepared batter, making sure they are coated evenly.
3.Heat a good amount of oil in a deep fryer or a large saucepan. Fry the battered tofu until they turn golden brown and crispy.
4.Drain the fried tofu on paper towels and sprinkle with salt.
5.In the same oil, fry the frozen chips or the potatoes until they are golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with salt.
6.Serve the crispy fried tofu and chips with a good drizzle of malt vinegar.
