Malted Milk Brownies are a classic dessert that are perfect for those who love the combination of chocolate and malt. These brownies boast a deep chocolate flavor that is heightened by the addition of unsweetened malted milk powder, which provides a hint of nutty, creamy flavor. The dense, fudgy texture of these brownies is offset by a sweet vanilla frosting swirled on top. While not the healthiest dessert option, these brownies are sure to satisfy even the most intense chocolate cravings.

Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
2.In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
3.In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet and unsweetened chocolate squares with the butter or margarine. Microwave on high in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until the chocolate and butter are melted and smooth.
4.Add the beaten eggs, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract to the chocolate mixture and stir until combined.
5.Stir in the milk and the unsweetened malted milk powder, followed by the flour mixture. Mix until all the ingredients are fully incorporated and the batter is thick and glossy.
6.Pour the batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
7.In a separate bowl, beat the softened butter or margarine with the confectioners' sugar until creamy. Drop the frosting by spoonfuls over the top of the brownie batter.
8.Use a knife to swirl the frosting into the batter in a decorative pattern.
9.Bake the brownies for 28-32 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with only a few crumbs attached.
10.Cool the brownies completely in their pan before cutting into squares and serving.

PROS

These brownies are rich, dense, and incredibly indulgent, with a complex flavor from the combination of malted milk and chocolate.

They are a crowd-pleaser at potlucks, picnics, and other gatherings.

CONS

Due to their high sugar content and calorie density, these brownies should be enjoyed in moderation as an occasional treat.

HEALTH & BENEFITS

While the brownies themselves are not particularly healthy, the unsweetened malted milk powder used in the recipe contains vitamins and minerals such as calcium, potassium, and vitamin B12.
There is also some evidence to suggest that moderate chocolate consumption can be beneficial for heart health.
