Ingredients

4 tablespoons butter
2 -3 2 -3 lbs stewing veal or 2 -3 lbs chicken parts
1 lb leek , washed trimmed and thickly sliced
4 garlic cloves , chopped finely
6 ounces barley
3 3/4 cups water
3 -4 tablespoons red wine vinegar or 3 -4 tablespoons white wine vinegar
2 bay leaves
salt
ground black pepper
15 fresh sage leaves , roughly chopped or 1 tablespoon dried sage
Stew with herbs and barley is a classic stew that is perfect for all occasions especially those cold nights! The stew is made with chunks of meat, leeks, garlic, barley, and fresh sage leaves that are braised together to create a delicious, flavorful dish. Instructions

1.Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a large, heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat.
2.Brown the meat on all sides in batches, remove from pot and set aside.
3.Add 2 tablespoons of butter to the pot and sauté the leeks and garlic until softened.
4.Add the barley, water, red wine vinegar, bay leaves, salt, and pepper to the pot. Stir well.
5.Return the meat to the pot and add sage leaves. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer for about 2 hours or until meat is tender, stirring occasionally.
6.Remove bay leaves and serve hot. Enjoy!
