1 ready-made chocolate pound cake

6 large ripe pears , peeled , cored , and cut into 1/2 inch wedges
1 cup heavy cream , whipped
milk chocolate or semisweet chocolate
maraschino cherries or candied cherry

Instructions

1.Cut the chocolate pound cake into small cubes and place them into a trifle bowl or individual dessert cups.

3.Gradually whisk in milk and egg yolks. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it bubbles and thickens (about 10-12 minutes).
4.Add vanilla extract and stir well. Remove from heat and let cool.
5.In another medium saucepan, combine white wine or grape juice, 1/3 cup sugar, lemon zest or rind, 1/2 tsp. nutmeg, and cinnamon.
6.Add pear wedges and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce heat and let it simmer for 10-12 minutes or until the pears are tender. Remove from heat and let cool.
7.Layer the cooled custard and pear mixture on top of the chocolate cake pieces.
8.Top with whipped cream and shaved milk or semisweet chocolate.
9.Garnish with maraschino or candied cherries.
10.Chill in the fridge for at least 1 hour before serving.
